It was past midnight and Karma and I sat at a table at the back of the restaraunt. The pianist was good, better than most of the ones I've heard here before. We sat quietly in our seats. The woman at the table across from us kept giving me looks. She was talking quickly to her date, I wanted to mess with her so badly but I kept myself under control. The woman had short cropped blonde hair and sunburned skin. She had tons of freckles running up and down her arms and face. Her eyes were blue. It was odd seeing her here, she lived a floor down from me in my apartment, and she didn't like me at all. Of course, I disliked her too.
She began whispering and her date turned around. Karma gave him a flashy smile and then looked at me. There was a hint of play in her eyes. I shook my head.
"Via, you're no fun anymore!" Karma complained quietly. I tapped the table softly and looked at the floor.
"Use your powers, they'll get all rusty if you don't." I laughed quietly.
"Uh-huh, and using them on an innocent woman and her date is a good way of doing that?" Karma looked at the woman and her date. Their waiter cleared their table and came over to us to take our order. Smoothly Karma complemented him on his shirt. SHe slowly slid her hand down the sleeve and lightly touched the base of a wine glass. She then ordered some ravioli. I looked at her as the waiter walked away.
"Karma, what is with you? You've eaten almost everything, WE don't eat. Are you like going on some sort of strike?"
"No. Remember when I went to Alaska?" I nodded.
"Yeah well, the coven I was with had this weird idea that we can keep the human part of us alive by eating human food. I think it's not entirely logical...but I mean I actually can remember alot of my past by eating it. Plus once you're used to it, it isn't that bad." I shook my head and looked at her empty wine glass.
"What was that all about? With the waiter?"
"The woman's name is Grace and her date is... hmm.. oh yeah... Michael. They just came back from Hawaii and Grace wants to move to Cali. or something."
"Huh, if she goes I'll be better off." I looked up at the stage where the piano was perched. The pianist was taking a break. Ten minutes later Karma's food came. I just looked at her for a while watching her eat her food. When she offered me some I didn't respond for a moment. I just looked at her plate. I could feel my stomach flipping over and over again.
"Via?" I looked up at her and shrugged. She handed me her fork, which had a piece of ravioli on it. I swallowed hard before popping the food into my mouth. I didn't chew it and just swallowed it. I handed the fork back to Karma.
She had a distant look on her face, I knew immediately what she was doing. Twenty minutes later she put down the fork.
"Do you remember your favorite food, color, or animal? What about people you crushed on?"
"NO." I said flatly.
"You loved flan. Your fave color was pink, and you LOVED no one. No one ever appealed to you. It's interesting." Interesting? Pink? Flan? Love was something I don't talk about. Karma didn't know, she talked about everything. Was she making this all up? Or were they just memories? My memories, that I don't remember any more?
