He sat outside the convenience store, a coke in one hand. Head phones in his ears and a magazine in his lap. He wasn't really Reading anything, just looking at the models, wondering how much makeup they were wearing and how much air brushing it had taken to make them look so hot. He was listening to some one hit wonder when eh decided to look up. Nothing interesting, but at that exact moment his Ipod died. Damn HE thought as he yanked the headphones out of his ears and wrapped their cord around he device and shoved it back into his pocket. He sighed as he leaned back and looked up at the sky absently, cloudy like usual. It seemed like weeks sense the sun had come out. It started to rain. Not a down pour, not yet anyways. He had time to get into the convenience store before it started really coming down. With nothing better to do he wandered around the store, looking broedly at the different brands of chocolate bars and the titles of magazines. Then the door opened. Tom didn't glance up from where he stood near the counter, wondering what the difference between a Milk chocolate and a chocolate milk flavored candy bar was. How stupid could these companies get? OOC: lovely name huh? *Bursts out laughing* Ya right! I have no inspiration for titles at the moment, so I just use dhis name

A great number of people have fled the simple town known as Forks, Washington; seeking adventure or even just new faces. They marvel at the idea of city life, of sunshine, larger homes, and whatever else their minds may conjure up. For Pippa, though, the small town lifestyle that Forks provided was more adventurous then any she had previously had.
Just this morning Pippa had woken past 10am, had a bowl of sugared cereal, and even watched a half hour of Saturday cartoons. Her white skirt spirals around her legs as she walks excitedly through town- shoving her hands into the pockets of her first sweatshirt. It wasn’t the most…desirable outfit she was sporting today, but Pip had yet to find a clothing store where she could find normal materials.
For now, anyway, the grey cozy sweatshirt and light-cloth skirt would have to do. Her strides gradually quicken as the clouds pour more fervently. From the corner of her eyes she catches the sight of a humble convenience store, and is drawn to it for shelter. A cow bell above the door announces her entrance to the store, and Pippa cringes under the sound. Staying invisible continued to be more difficult then she had earlier thought. Only the clerk and a young man are in the store, neither of which seemed interested by the cow bell’s alert. Pippa doesn’t wait for them to become interested though. Her light pink flats step as noiselessly as possible to the nearest isle. A light sigh falls from her while she pulls down the hood of the sweatshirt; revealing the mess of loose curls underneath. Her index finger traces excitedly over the different products on shelf, intrigued by the low prices as well. Pippa catches herself smiling weakly while glancing back and forth to confirm that she was still unseen.

OOC; So am I allowed to reply? Gah, I will anyways..
IC:
Tom glanced up very quickly as the bell rang, and saw a hooded figure walk in. Female, thatw as all he could tell. As the hood regestered he half smiled as the memmories of those TV shows he used to watchcame to mind, where hooded figures robbed convienience stores. But in a small town like Forks? No way. He sighed as he took in all the products of the store, he'd been in here before and really wasn't interested in anything they had.
He turned down the magazing isle and was examining soem when he glanced over the low rack they were on and saw the curly shrubbery that ws the hair of the girl who had entered a few moments after him. A friendly smile escaped him as her features regestered in his mind.
OOC-P.S: Not my best but ah well...

Pip can feel the heat of a blush creeping into her cheeks, and freezes in place. It was her subconscious that made the red pool on cheek; and immediately knew she was being watched. Her eyes slowly rise from the gram cracker box she had been looking at. It doesn’t take long for her to catch the flash of a smile, her eyes quickly dropping back down to where they had been. But…no one in this town could be as unfriendly as the debutantes she once knew. It…wouldn’t hurt to be friendly: after all, that was the main attraction to this town for her. Pippa takes the time to draw in a deep breath for courage and slips silently around the isle.
Her hands shape themselves around the wood that divided the two isles, peeking first before coming closer. Pippa makes small, questioning, strides in his direction. Folding her hands together in front of her and biting the side of her lower lip (a nervous habit she vowed to get rid of). Hello. Surely she could have taken the time to come up with something less cliché then hello. A more experienced girl in socialization may have said something charming, or even flirty; but Pip was proud of herself enough for speaking right now. After a bit more time in Forks her normal self will come around. She stops after a few feet, releasing her bottom lip to speak again. Is there anything around here a little more interesting then the convenience store? Her vocals are only whispers, not wanting to offend the clerk a few feet behind them. To Pippa, anyway, everything in Forks was interesting. Maybe with a guide she could further explore the ins and outs of this new town. A crooked smile pulls the right side of her lips. The rain was lighting up and the overcast sky wasn’t about to put a damper on her day.

She caught the smile, Tom could tell as she almost casually began to stroll down the one side of the isle. She may have paused at the end, Tom hadn't been paying much attention. HE noticed her out of the corner of his eye, coming to wards him, biting her lower lip. He tried to keep himself from chuckling and succeeded. She reminded him of one of his friends little sisters.
Her voice was friendly, it had a nice ring to it. And she seemed a little humble, merely saying 'Hello' instead of introducing herself. Tom knew most of the instructions of socialization, he ripped his gaze away from the car magazine he had been eying and looked casually at her.
He smiled a little, mostly to himself as he heard her ask the question. A City slicker? Ha. Okay, maybe not slicker, but a city girl. A new face, fresh blood. He offered his hand, in his, as ever, casual way. "Hey. Tom St. Clare." He said, not caring to much that he was speaking almost loud enough for the clerk to ear, but the clerk didn't glance up from whatever it was he was doing. "Sure, theres plenty to do 'round here. If you count hanging out and the like in the category of interesting stuff. But as for right now, there isn't much better to do. Even for those who are used to the rain, thats a heavy downpour." He rambled a little. He stopped himself, and paused, hopping she would introduce herself.

Pippa notes the way he looked at her as she rounded the turn. It wasn’t an expression she didn’t get regularly, the ‘oh, how cute’ look. The look never bothered her before, but now that she was 16, she silently wished to sprout a few inches and look like someone at least 14. She takes his hand, a gesture that Pip was accustomed to, and tries her best to put in strength to the shake. Not wanting the ‘how cute’ look to show up again. Of course, it isn’t worth the effort. The pressure she put into the shake probably didn’t even register to the others that she was doing it. Pippa. It’s nice to meet you. She purposely excludes her last name. If it had been something more reasonable like Smith, or Jones, then she wouldn’t have.
It takes another moment before Pip can continue, her eyes scanning his and memorizing the blue in them. As strange as seems, she has always been secretly intrigued by blue eyes. No two are the same, just like snowflakes. All browns and greens looked just about the same to her, but all the blues offered something different; never before seen. She had always wished her eyes would magically turn blue, but instead she was given murky gold mixed with brown and green. Nothing compared to the uniqueness of a blue. Not much better to do..? Well, I find that hard to believe. There is always something…that we can…find Pippa’s eyes trail off to the window. Somehow, in spite of the monsoon weather outside, she takes in the sight of a small book store. She looks back at Tom with a smile. And I think I have found it. Her hood is pulled back over her head, and she walks to the door. Preparing herself for the sprint across the puddle filled street to the book store. With her hand on the door, she turns back to look at him again. Coming? The door opens easily with the wind pulling it open, and she runs laughing through the downpour and onto the other side of the street. Her slippery wet hands find the door and pull it open, breathing in the warm air and smell of old books. Nothing calms her quite like books do. Pippa doesn’t look back again to see if he chose to follow. A part of her wants him to, hoping like mad that she could make a friend in this foreign town; but she gave him the choice, and whether he took it was irrelevant.

Pippa. Interesting name. Tom thought as he watched her examine him. She studied him closely, he wasn't the type to do the same, not until he knew them. She seemed eager not to let the buckets and buckets of water coming from the sky at t he moment dampen her spirit. That was admirable. Tom thought as she made the casual invitation. She didn't stop to see if he was coming as she sprinted across the street. Tom chuckled as he took the few strides to the still closing door and pushed it open again. HE was just hopping over the sidewalk when she opened the door. Tom hadn't bothered to put his hood up and his hair was darker now because it was soaked. He walked into t he store, the smell of books met him. He didn't mind she smell, but it wasn't his favorite. This Pippa girl amused him, and not in a way that was sad, she had a truly interesting personality. He looked around the store, he'd been in here a few times, but he had never actually looked that closely at it. Her back was to him, but he didn't mind. He could easily see over her, to the desk where the clerk glanced up from a large hard cover book then went back to reading. "Ah, a book store. Always fun to be had here." Tom said, he wasn't being sarcastic, but he wasn't the most interested in books either. 'So, what do you read?" As almost pre-usual he was casual, a little more reserved now.

She doesn’t have to turn around to know that he had followed after all. His shoes make a wet squish sound behind her. A man behind the desk looks up briefly, then back down to his novel without interest to their arrival. This suited Pip; she prefers her quality time with books undisturbed. With Tom, though, she would make an exception. She was in no place to pass up the opportunity to socialize. His statement seems to have a fine coating of sarcasm on top. Her lips form a smile in response, happy she wasn’t the only one who could use the skill of sarcastic behavior. Of course there’s fun to be had. Pippa says while laughing lightly and heading down the young adult isle. Every book is a portal to another world. An escape from reality where you can travel to any place you could ever imagine. Now she was turning sentimental. She forces her mouth shut in effort to not scare him away with her obsession of books.
Fingers trace the spine of each novel, reading silently the names until she arrives to the ‘B’s. Pulling out a paperback novel she turns it over a few times inspecting. I read just about anything. But my favorites are the ones that you know could never happen…Here. This is Libba Bray; she’s a favorite of mine. Pip hands him the book and smiles encouragingly. He seemed like the type that needed encouragement to open a book, but then again, weren’t most normal teens? Somehow Pippa gets the idea that Libba Brays’ A Great and Terrible Beauty won’t appeal to the male species. Boarding schools for young ladies, magic realms, the bonds of friendship that arise in the most surprising situations; none of this was really, men material. Or…maybe you would enjoy something a little different. Pippa strides to another isle, fiction, and traces the author’s names again. Now this one has great morals, if you prefer novels with meaning. She hands him Anthem by Ayn Rand and chews on her bottom lip again. Perhaps she had revealed too much about her passion with literature, and he would run quickly out the door and vow to never speak to her again. She waits as patiently as possible, hoping he didn’t classify her too quickly as a drooling nerd.

She had an obvious passion for books. That much was obvious to Tom as she handed him a book and started talking about literature. He looked down at the book, it looked interesting enough, he scanned the back quickly. For a guy he was a pretty fast reader - when he decided to read - which was mostly magazine articles that required little concentration. "Portals to other worlds? Isn't there a TV show that's based on that?" He asked, trying to be a little funny. Well she knew what she liked, he'd give her that. She continued her rant as she moved to the next isle and found another book, by another author Tom had never heard of. She handed him the book over the isle and opened it to a random page and read a paragraph. This one wasn't half bad.
"Morals. Always nice to have good morals." He murmured as he read one of the reviews, then glanced at the price. Why not? He had some money to waste, besides if he bought it maybe he'd have something to do other then study the next time a good storm trapped him at home.
"So I guess you've read Lord of The Rings? And probably Harry Potter." Tom said as he glanced up and touched the book under his arm. Lord of The Rings had been a good summer read, it had taken him all summer to read the Trilogy, and it had taken him longer then that to read the Harry Potter series, though he had watched the movies after that to keep himself entertained. He hopped she'd find something as well, that way he wouldn't feel so bad when he bought this one.

this is how the fire starts, this is how we burn. -Libba Bray
Pippa’s mind was already in another dimension. Lost, somewhere between Rebel Angels and the Sweet Far Thing, deciding where a particular scene was in the books. Her back was turned to him as he commented on the highly popular Twilight Zone, ‘portals’ and such; science fiction things that had always captured her attention as a child. It worked even now; her thoughts were brought back to present. She allows a single high pitched ‘Ha!’ at his comparison between literature and television. Her eyes are back down again and searching for other miscellaneous novels. Scanning over Brave New World, Aldous Huxley, George Orwell’s 1984…Nathaniel Hawthorne and Samuel Clemens….
It’s happened again. She’s lost in her own world of stories about lucky girls that were born with personalities. Tom’s questioning of The Lord of the Rings and ever spectacular J.K Rowling, yet again, brings her back to surface. She looks over her shoulder at him, pondering, then looks back for that last Author she was searching for while responding. No, can’t say that I have read The Lord of the Rings. I did see part of a movie, but never got the entire plot. As for Harry Potter, I read the first four before growing into other Authors. Pip felt vaguely guilty for not having read these suggested ones. Somehow it felt like he had been hoping for her to have read them, but it wasn’t uncommon for her to feel as if she were a disappointment.
Her sight zeros in on his expression, one of consideration. Whites of her eyes widen and she puts her hands over the novel as well. You really don’t have to buy anything; I was just…suggesting decent pieces. I don’t want you to think I’m expecting you to purchase this. She sports one of those flattering, trustworthy smiles and pulls the book a little closer. It wouldn’t be right for him to spend money over it; if he wanted it that bad then it was only right for her to do the buying.

She seemed to have such a love of literature and yet hadn't read the most popular books? Well okay, the books themselves wern't all that popular - the movies had made them that way. Tom had to admit that he had struggled a little to finish the books, the movies had been more entertaining. She seemed lost in her own little world, he supposed, he paused and she came back. "I thought the movies were better..." Tom mumbled, almost embarassed to admit it to this short, litriture craving stranger. He admired her love of books, though he didn't really share it with her.
"Well. If you insist, I coudl go put it back. But I'd probably be back here in the morning to buy it." Tom said as she reached for the book, she ran her fingers along it, then flashed him a smile - he probably would have lost his train of thought when he'd seen it, had he not been aware of the clerks eyes on them. Tom tried to keep his face from showing the surprise he got from someonehaving such a lovley, innocent smile. "Besides, I could use a book consultant," He smiled, though he didn't reveal hsi teeth. "and you seem to have a pretty good know-how of books. May as well read what you suggest." He added and pretended to consider weather or not he should....
OOC: Horrible, horrible, horrible. I really should go to bed.. but I whon't lol.
